marco Moderator Master Resell Rights vs Private Label Rights Countless download sellers and buyers often wonder, “What’s the difference between Master Resell Rights (MRR) and Private Label Rights (PLR)?”. Some erroneously assume that these two rights are the same or are so similar that it's pointless to distinguish between them. While some of the rights inherit with private label rights may overlap with master resell rights, they are definitely each unique rights on their own.
First of all download buyers and potential resellers should be aware that master resell rights almost never include private label rights, however private label rights may include master resell rights. Private label rights are required if you plan on customizing or re-labeling the content or file to suit your usage. Master resell rights quite simply is the right to resell the content or file and resell the resell rights to someone else.
While master resell rights or the concept of selling rights to another party to resell content is nothing new, but private label rights is a far newer concept that unfortunately is rarely defined. Anyone in legal possession of master resell rights can also sell those rights. Only the original creator can give private label rights to another party, even if allowing the other party to resell the private label rights content. This is what legally differentiates master resell rights from private label rights.
Master Resell Rights Include The Following:- Use or resell the content or file as you see fit
- Sell rights to another party so that they can use or resell the file as they see fit
- Generally includes a reseller package with sales page, content file, and images
Private Label Rights Include The Following:- Re-use of the content in part or whole*
- Re-packaging or re-labeling of the content to reflect your business needs
- Right to sell the content in part or whole to potential buyer*
- Generally includes editable source to allow modification of the content or file
*Depends on the terms of the private label rights agreement
Having the right to resell a private label rights product does not mean that master resell rights exist also. The right to resell may be limited to reselling the product to an end user without any rights attached. As mentioned before the extent of your rights to content or files that you have purchased with the intent to resell is dependent on the terms of your private label rights agreement.
Hopefully this helps to clear some of the confusion, assumptions, and general misinformation about master resell rights and private label rights.

digigoods Pro Member Re: Master Resell Rights vs Private Label Rights Very interesting and informative. I have to admit I was one of those persons who thought mrr and plr were essentially the same thing.
Thanks for setting the record straight.
